Rhia

The young elv stood there, tensing as the wind touched her bare shoulders. The corner of her mouth twitched as her lengthy hair blew in the breeze, brushing her face gently. The moon was bright, very bright. It???s reflection across the lake was peaceful, but couldn???t rid her mind of the war. A rustling in the bushes startled her as she pulled out her sword.
???Who goes???? she asked in a calm, but firm voice.
???Ah, Rhia, you are to tense. As in times before the war, you must relax for moments,??? the elder said walking out of the brush.
???I am sorry elder,??? she said, holding to fingers on their sides against her sternum, gesturing respectfully towards the elder, ???The war has put much on my mind, and has quickened my reactions, and sharpened my senses.???
???It is okay young one. All warriors are tense right now. We must learn to live with this war, and not lose hope or spirit,??? the elder said, looking at the stars, ???Where is your brother???? he asked.
???I do not know where Riau has gone,??? she said, ???He may be off practicing his magic.???
???So young to be fighting a war,??? the elder murmured.
???Yes, but with no agers to fight, we must,??? she said. She knew she was young. Only a hundred and fifty years old, which by elv standards was very young. Her and her brother were young. He was her twin, and the elder to be. The weird thing about them was they didn???t look anything alike. Two completely different people.
???Yes, the agers. . .??? elder said.
???We must not lurk on the past,??? she said. The agers were her mother and father, and others of their generation who had died in the war just a year ago. Her and her brother were the same age, but she was the one who took care of them when they had died. Others would help with items they needed, but she had to care, something she almost couldn???t do. After their death it became hard for her to share her feelings. She kept a blank face, and piercing stare, only letting her eyes betray her every once in a while.
???Sometimes I forget I am the elder and not you,??? elder said.
???Do you really think Riau can be an elder,??? she asked after a pause, thinking about her immature little brother.
???Yes,??? the elder replied, ???Time will harden and him and give him wisdom.???
???I hope,??? she said.

Riau

???Come on Riau!??? Levinn begged. They were going to go to the forest and see what mischief they could get into.
???I don???t think I should, I have to study,??? he said, but the grin he tried to hold back came up.
???You know you want to!??? Levinn said.
???Okay!??? Riau said, without a moments hesitation. They went into the forest with their bows and arrows ready to shoot at anything, ???I wonder what Rhia is doing???? Riau thought. His ???twin??? sister was the most boring person in the world. After their mother and father died she had become as hard as a rock. No more fun! Whenever Riau did something he wasn???t supposed to, Rhia was on him like he had killed someone! He sighed and followed Levinn. They were both a hundred and fifty years old (Human standards would be fifteen), but acted like they were a hundred. People knew them as mischievous and always getting into trouble, back at the village. Something him in the head and he turned around to see Levinn making a sphere of earth hover above his palm. ???You want to play that way???? Riau asked, with a devilish grin on his face. He gathered water from the leaves, and made a larger sphere of water. ???Vundruox,??? he muttered, as the sphere of water flew towards Levinn, splashing him on contact. Riau fell over laughing. Levinn looked as if he was pushed in the lake.
???Oh yeah!??? Levinn said.
Riau felt dirt go in his mouth. He jumped up and spit it out, ???Awwww! Gross!??? he said, ???I???m going to kill you!??? he said, tackling Levinn to the ground.
???It???s what you get!??? Levinn yelled, trying to get on top.
???Ahhhh!??? Riau said as Levinn grabbed a fist full of his long hair. They both heard the brush part.

Rhia:

???What are you doing?!??? Rhia said, seeing her brother wrestling instead of studying.
???Oh, Rhia what are you doing out???? Riau asked, getting up and brushing himself off quickly.
???Oh! H-hi Rhia!??? Levinn said, scrambling up.
???You need to go study now! The elder was looking for you!??? she said, as Riau got up, and started to run towards the village. She turned to face Levinn, ???And you! Don???t distract my brother!??? she said harshly.
???S-sorry Rhia,??? Levi said, rubbing the back of his head.
???Leave me alone,??? Rhia said, starting to walk away.
???C-can I escort you back???? Levinn asked quickly.
???No.??? Rhia flatly said.
???Well-but-umm. . .??? Levinn said, watching her walk away.
Rhia brushed her hair out of her face. She did not need to worry about males right now.

Riau:

Riau ran to the village. Rhia had gotten on to him again! They were both the same age, so why was she in control?! He was mad for a little while, but couldn???t stay that way towards his sister. She was the one who took care of him since mother and father died. He seemed to be blaming himself for her behavior. When his parents died she became that way after taking care of him. She couldn???t even find a male companion. He knew Levinn was attracted to her, yes, but why should he not be. All male elves new she was the best female in the village. She was beautiful, strong willed, and a great warrior and mage. Perfect in his eyes, but no! She did not seem to like him or any other males. He wished he wasn???t there sometimes, so Rhia would be able to be a youngling, instead of acting like a ager. He stopped running and kicked a rock. Like many times before, he was mad at himself for making his sister that way. He didn???t even think about her as a sister sometimes. She might have been lead warrior, or top mage in his head. She did everything better than anybody else. She even helped the pre-agers plan strategies. She was sure to become a general, or even a chief at the rate she was going! Everyone thought so, even the males, and they didn???t believe in female chiefs. He didn???t even know why he was chosen for an elder! He wasn???t smart, he was physically strong. He shouldn???t be studying! He should be practicing on the battle field, yet he still was to become a elder! ???Uhg!??? he said, making his way back into the village. He strode towards the elders dwellings.
???So there you are,??? said the elder as he walked in.
???Yes, here I am,??? he said sitting on a mat next to the elder.
???Yes, and this is for not studying,??? the elder said hitting him on the head with his staff.
???Oww!??? Riau said. It didn???t kill but it hurt enough to where he did not want to be hit again.
???Now recite the word for bird,??? the elder said, waiting.
???Umm. . .Pacstiz???? he said.
???Correct, now land,??? the elder demanded.
???Zimis???? he said.
???No!??? said the elder.

Rhia

Yes she knew there might be a time when she found a compatible a male companion, but now was not the time. They were at war! The tribe of the east, Landleruin, decided they wanted better routes through the north tribe???s, Saaremaa???s, forests and they would not stand for that! Now they were fighting, and Rhia was prepared and ready to fight. She had trained, and trained for years now. Ever since she was little she had trained, but not like she had when her parents died. Now she might as well be a full fledged ager with her skills. The village came in view and she walked over to the training area. Seeing the sword master, she used the same gesture as she had with the elder.
???My best pupil!??? he said, seeing her coming.
???Thank you master Xham,??? she said.
???What are you here for today???? he asked.
???More practice,??? she said.
???Again, but you have beat the whole village,??? master Xham protested.
???If I don???t train, I will forget, and I will not forget,??? she said.
???Okay, well. We have someone from the southern tribe, Asriun, here. I???ll ask if they shall be your match,??? he said, turning around and walking towards his dwelling. He came back out with a young male, ???This is Druican,??? he said, ???Will you fight him????
???I will,??? she said, accepting the offer.
???I shall be a worthy opponent,??? Druican said.
???Get in the field,??? master Xham said.
They walked to the field, Rhia looking over her opponent. He was strong, and looked slow. She could deal with that. She stood across from him and bowed as she had been taught to do when she had met other elves. One foot behind the other, eyes down, one hand on your lower spine and the other in your tribes respect gesture. ???Alright,??? she said quietly to herself.
???Start,??? said master Xham.
They both were circling, and examining each other. She lunged forward, and tried to strike his shoulder, but he side stepped, and she missed. He brought his sword down upon her, but she rolled to the side. She went overhead, and their swords met, him throwing her off having (as males do) better upper strength. She dodged another blow, then dealt one, with he quickly blocked. She jumped back, with great agility, and tried again. ???Neither of us is gaining leverage!??? she thought. Her speed balanced out his strength! No one would win. She could see master Xham becoming uneasy. She screamed, surprising him, and swept in to pin him. He went to step back, but stumbled and fell. She put the tip of her sword against his necka snd said, ???Dead,??? then got up and walked away. She could feel Druican???s eyes following her, in amazment, but just kept walking.

Riau:

Riau was looking for Rhia. She had defeated a member of the southern tribe! He wanted to ask her about it. Apparently he was really good to, but his sister was better. He smirked as he thought of some foreign fool, trying to defeat his sister! Ha! Like that would ever happen. The only times his sister seemed like fun was when she was fighting. He saw her hanging between two dwellings. ???I heard you-??? he started, but she cut him off.
???Stop talking,??? she said. She was holding her hand to her chest and was breathing hard.
???Are you okay???? he asked.
???Yes, I???m fine,??? she said, getting up from her spot on the ground.
???You defeated that southern guy???? he asked, still eyeing her suspiciously.
???Yes, he was a good opponent to,??? she said, starting to walk.
???Well you beat him, and the whole village is talking about it. I think they should have a competition between some of the younglings here and the some there,??? he said, trying to make a conversation.
???No,??? Rhia said.
???Why???? Riau asked.
???Do you not understand that we are in a war Riau???? she said.
???Oh yes,??? he said, looking down, ???I forgot.???
???How do you forget?!??? Rhia yelled angrily, ???Our parents were taken by this war!???
???I know, I???m sorry,??? he said quietly.
???You are so ignorant sometimes!??? Rhia said, stomping off.
???What is the matter with her???? Riau said to himself, he was close to tears. His sister had never treated him like that. Was he too much of a burden for her at such a young age? He didn???t know, but went to the forest where he could think about it. If he was going to cry, he would not want to be around anyone.

Rhia:

She had worked too hard, that was why her chest had hurt. That guy was too much of a match for her, but she had won! She had also got ten in a fight with Riau. She could have cried, but didn???t. How could she have done that. The bond between her and her brother was unbreakable, but could be loosened. She wondered where he had gone. He wouldn???t be at the dwelling, people would be waiting to talk there, and knowing her brother he wouldn???t want to be seeing anybody right now. He wouldn???t even see Levinn at a time like this. She had to go find him. She walked until the pain in her chest subsided, then went into a full sprint. She found her brother sitting over a small cliff, looking down on the village where nobody could see him. ???Riau I am sorry,??? she said.
???No, I am Rhia,??? he told her, startled that she had appeared out of nowhere.
???I was the one who yelled at you, I am supposed to be the one who can keeps her temperature,??? she said, not looking at him.
???Rhia, we are both the same, but I am sorry for not letting you be free. I am just a burden to you, and nothing more,??? Riau said, staring down at the village. He had always been the sensitive one out of the two.
???Riau,??? Rhia said looking at the village, ???You are not a burden to me. You balance me out in so many ways, that I could not live without you. Please do not think that,??? she told him trying to keep too much emotion from entering her voice.
???Rhia, I stop you from being you. You could have a companion right now, but you don???t, and that is my fault. I know they would have let you gone to fight if I wasn???t here, but everybody knows I am the thing holding you back,??? Riau said.
???You do not hold me back Riau. I choose to stay here. I may seem like I want to leave the world and others behind at sometimes, but never you. You are my brother, and though you may not know it, our powers are one. Without you I would have no power. You stimulate my will to live, because of the energy that flows between you and I,??? she said, and meant. It was common between twins to have the same energy course. Usually it balanced out to where each twin was equal, but with her and Riau he seemed to get the physical energy and her the mental. It was split down the middle. Yes, she was physically strong, but only from forcing it. Riau???s strength cam naturally.
???I am sorry sister,??? Riau said, ???If I ever am a burden, and for believing I was,??? Riau said, ???I must go back to the village.???
???I will meet you and our dwelling later,??? Rhia said. She needed time to think, so she headed towards a little pool that branched off from the lake. She took off her garments and floated in the pool, her long hair surrounding her body. The warm shaded water soothed her. Did Riau think he was a burden? She had never thought of him as a burden. She just knew he was the thing she was alive for. If he wasn???t there, she would have died when her parents did. The shock might of killed her, but for her brothers sake, had held it in and kept living for him. He was never a burden! He was a anchor, keeping her to the real world. Keeping her from taking deaths hand into her own. She had come very close to that when the agers had passed away, but left death in the middle of her path to become a perfect warrior and mage. She had now accomplished that, and now all that was left was making sure her brother stayed alive. Though she did not think of him as a burden she always thought of him as the younger one out of the two of them. Looking at the sun, she could see she had been there for nearly two hours thinking on such simple thoughts. She put her clothing back on and walked through the trees to the village. She felt a fish brush against her arm, and stood up. She had better get back to Riau.

Rhia gets better throughout the story. . .I think. That's only what I am predicting from reading it. My writing side won't reveal anything!

I deleted my old comment. I felt stupid there. I'll just summarize it.

Love this one.

The beginning seemed very boring but it got much better. It sucks how Rhia is so cold, kind of a bummer ;/ I look forward to reading more though. I like it overall. If this ever became published as a series I would definitely look into reading it. Keep me posted! You're a great writer. [:
