I???ve noticed A LOT of people on the Graphics Forum have trouble downloading Brushes for GIMP. So I made this little tutorial. If you have any other questions please feel free to mail me.

Downloading Brushes for GIMP is very similar to downloading fonts.
First find a whole bunch of brushes that you would like to download. Deviantart has some great ones. Photoshop brushes also work for GIMP so if you find some Photoshop brushes that you like feel free to download them as well. Now, you have to find the file that holds all the brushes. In IE I believe it goes into the Documents. If Firefox it goes into the Downloads Folder. If you know how to extract the files go ahead. But if you???re like me and don???t have the software to extract files you???ll have to do it the longer way. First Create a new folder. Name it Brushes or GIMP or whatever. Once all the files are in, show all the documents in the little sidebar. (Click the little arrow next to the folder.) Now click on the first file and now on the top you should see Extract All Files. Click Extract. Now a new window will pop up. KEEP this window OPEN. You can close the other one now.
Now you???ll have to go to your Computer. Click on the hard drive that you are using. (Usually the first one) Now click on the Folder that says Program Files. Now you have a whole bunch of folders. Find GIMP. Now Click on the Share Folder and than the 2.0 folder. (It works for 2.6 and all other versions of GIMP as well) Now click on the brushes folder. Drag and Drop the Extracted Brush File into the GIMP folder. It???ll install the brush and you???re free to use it on GIMP.
Know that the newly installed brushes will only show up when you restart GIMP. They won???t come up right away.

Outline Around an Image or Text!

For the color outline around the text you'll have to first open the layers dialog. (Ctrl+L)
Now you should see the text layer.
Activate the text layer by clicking on it.

Now go to Layer>>Transparency>>Alpha to Selection.

The text should be outlined by moving "ants."

Now go to Select>Grow>>1 pixel.
Now Create a New Layer and Fill that selection with the color you want the outline to be. Move the original text on top the outlined layer.
=D

You should have a nice outline around your text. This also works for images.

-------------

Creating a glow around images!

If you want a glow around your text, simply follow the Outline Tutorial^^ but before merging the layers, activate the white layer and go to Filters>>Blur>>Tileable Blur>>10px and you should have a glow.
=D

But, let's say for instance you should want have your maradoll on a signature? First you should get a screen shot of your maradoll. Find the page that you want and press the button Prt Scr. Now go to Edit>>Paste as>>New Layer. Erase everything but your doll. It doesn't have to be exact, just all the sidebar and colored stuff. Now go to Color>>Color to Alpha, and click ok. This removed all the white in the image. Now go to Layer>>Transparency>>Alpha to Selection. The image should be outlined. Now go to Select>>Grow>>3px. You can play around with this if you like. Now Create a New Layer. MAKE SURE THIS LAYER IS UNDER YOUR DOLL. IF YOU NEED TO MOVE IT ON TOP, TO SEE THE WHITE, JUST REMEMBER TO MOVE IT ON TOP. With the outline of the doll still intact fill that whole selection with white with a big brush. Make sure it's filled all the way otherwise your doll will look funny when place on the graphic. Now with the White layer still selected go to Filters>>Blur>>Tileable Blur>>10px. Varied to change if you wish. Merge the two layers together and you've got yourself a perfect cutout of your maradoll!
