23rd Jun 2009 16:31 This is my new....book-like thing. The name of it is secret, so for now, we'll just call it "The breakout". Basically the plot is that a group of freaks are trying to break out of the cells. All hell breaks lose. :3
----------
Sunlight poured into the windows and slid through the cage, sliding past the guards like some unknown assassin. The dust particules from the old carpet on the wet floor rose to the streaks of sunlight, dancing like pixie dust. Somehow day stalked night until it gave up, dying and letting light follow the earths ups and downs. It was warm in the cell; yet it made me shiver. The wet mold growing on the other side of the carpet disgusted me, and made me shy away from it.
A girl, no, a creature, was sitting, her steely iron coloured hair covering her porcelain smooth, pale white face. She almost looked like an albino from the first sight, however, her eyes were blue. Not just any kind of blue, but the kind of pale blue you see when a flash light points out the way in a dark room. Her tears where black, creeping down her white face, caressing the sides of her jaw, until the tear grew and dropped onto her knees. A bell rang; Meal time. Suddenly, all the creatures from all the cages started howling, growling, demanding the slobs of meat they give at this low-class freak show jail.
"Alright you freaks," Called a voice from the shadows. His name is Mr. Lyde, a somewhat tall man with a a dark face and a prominet chin. His teeth were yellowish, which made me think if he was some sort of hybrid, or just a human who never took proper care of himself. His pinstripe jacket was red, like the colour of blood when it's dried up. His eyes were almost cat like; and a yellow streak went through his right eye. He cooed to the bird-woman in the cage, then shot his attention to me. "My dearest Elyse," He said, his feline eyes dropped to my level. I instantly became stiff, and backed away until the bars from the cage dug into my back. "Don't worry," whispered Mr. Lyde. He moved the bangs out of my eyes, and followed the sides of my face until he came to my chin. "Now, there's a show tonight. Eat up. Your cage masters will practice with you." His voice became sharp and harsh again. The bell rang again, which meant the end of our meal time.
My cage master was an old woman, who goes by the name of Soilae. She calls herself a voodoo queen, which, in my eyes, she is. She is able to talk to spirits, and change my personality before each show, to make me more comfoting. However, most people here tend to stay away from her, becuase she often "curses" them. I heard that once she cursed a man who worked here 30 years ago, and the next day, he was stiff as a board, lying outside on the morning dew. Ever since then, most people are even afriad to talk to her; even Mr. Lyde. "Now, Elyse," Soilae said with a sweet voice. "Let's get to work," She fumbled with her keys, because she has abnormally long finger nails. Once she found the right key, she slid it into the slot, and I heard a click.
A gasp came from the rest of the cage masters. For some reason, they called me beautiful. I had angel wings that hugged my back, and silver-chrome hair that fell to my stomach like wires. Even unicorns, the most beautiful creatures in the world, feel envious when they stand next to me. "I must have her," said Mr. Lyde the first time he laid eyes on me. But I'm not beautiful. I'm an evil creature. I eat the living, and I help the undead. I guess that's why i'm here. Only to be seen, and not heard...
I was much taller than Soilae. I felt like a giant next to her. And here i was, out and the open, all eyes on me. I don't really think anyone knows what it feels like to be on a soapbox this high. "Let's train," Soilae said, and i awoke from my thoughts. I nodded, and pursed my lips as i tried to concentrate. My wings unfolded, and, to my amazement and as it seemed everyone elses my wings grew. They were an astonishing 8 feet lengthwise. The light cought them and everyone suddenly fell quiet. In the light, my wings weren't like any other wings you've seen before. They shimmered with a brilliance of fresh snow when the sun hit the ground; like a thousand diamonds. The colours were another thing though; brilliant shades of pinks and blues faded in and out, taking eachothers place. Of course, i earned oo's and ahh's. But that's not good enough. Not for Mr. Lyde.
"Get back to work." Mr. Lyde said in a stern voice, and shot a look that could kill. Everyone else did as he said, but they still gave me jealous glances. Soilae smiled and put her head on her hands, like the sleeping gesture. "Elyse....how..." -Soilae tapped her mouth, trying to think of the word to use- "pulchritudinous. Yes, thats the word." I frowned and coc.ked my head to the side. "Ah. Yes. Pulchritudinous means beautiful dear." Soilae smiled. "Now...lets get to work." Soilae raised her right hand and told me to follow her.
We walked outside. It felt good. I haven't been outside for days, maybe even a week. The fresh air moved through my lungs; a lot better than the dust and mold inside of the building. I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw the other people- creatures watching me. I smiled. It felt good to feel needed for once in my life. Soilae coughed; trying to get my attention. "Now..." She whispered. "We're outside now. You can talk." Soilae looked to both sides and then smiled. I opened my mouth. It felt idiosyncratic, as Soilae would say. "Thanks....Soilae. Jeez....this feels weird." My voice was like if someone were singing. Or, as Mr. Lyde says 'A million angels singing a beautiful song'. I stood on my tip-toes and raised my arms slowely. My wings spread out and i jumped.
Flying was like something no one would ever understand. It's not like flying on a plane. Not at all. The wind rushes past your ears, making a noise that sounds almost like a song. The sun seems different when your flying; it's almost like your swimming in a pool on sunlight. Clouds are exactly like what people think they are. They're light and fluffy, and, if you have the right touch, you can lay on them like a bed of cotton candy. Sculpting them is the real art. It takes little effort, for me at least, to fly. Now, maybe for those wingless people it would be hard. And if they ever got the chance to, i doubt anyone would ever give it up. "Elyse! Elyse, dearie, do your routine." Soilae was shouting. I looked down. I didn't realize how high i was. I must have been at least 100 feet up. I breathed in and nodded, not like she would see me do that gesture at all though. "Nemo, haud, nemo mos umquam exsisto ut decorus ut I, And ut Ego, no per divum ego must dico tener unus, haud, nemo mos umquam exsisto ut decorus ut I. The pennipotenti invidia mihi quod smile per grace,They nunquam mos adepto ut ego sum ashamed, and ut ego no per sky, no unus, haud, nemo ero ut pulsus ut I.People vultus preteritus mihi quod wonder quam is est possible pro quispiam futurus sobeautiful. But suus gravis burdensome, how nemo mos umquam exsisto ut decorus tanquam." I was singing a song that Soilae made up, and it's translations are 'No one, no, no one will ever be as beautiful as I,
And as I, fly through the sky i must tell you
No one, no, no one will ever be as beautiful as I.
The birds envy me and smile with grace,
They never will get that i am ashamed,
and as I fly through the sky,
no one, no, no one will be as beatiful as I.
People look past me and wonder
wonder how it is possible for someone to be so
beautiful.
But its burdensome,
oh burdensome,
how no one will ever be as beautiful as I.' Suddenly, everything stopped. People stepped outside to see what just sang. To their excitment it was an angel. But they're wrong. I'm some sort of angel that went horribly, horribly wrong. But, if they want to believe that heaven is coming down from above, let them.
"Alright, Alright!" Mr. Leyde shouted. I could hear him all the way up here, loud and clear. I could only imagine how loud he was down there. "If you want to see the amazing-" -he cooed- "Elyse and all the rest of these freak--er...I mean gods gifts then you better get tickets! Our next show it tonight!" Mr. Leyde tried to smile. Attempt failed. He looked like some criminal who just commited murder try to slip past trial not guilty. I 'sank', and lightly i fell on my feet, no injury. "Darling Elyse...." Mr. Lyde said in his sweet voice. "Get back inside!" He yelled. "We must get ready for tonight." With that, he turned around and walked back inside.
