a woman went to the grocery store,
to feed her seven children,
but she didn't have enough money,
even for frozen chicken;
she had exactly a dollar ninety-nine cents,
so she bought bread instead,
her children moaned at the thought of eating stuff that tasted like lead,
and groaned at the thought of being hungry,
all they wanted was something sweet and a little sugary,
on their mothers birthday they made a mud pie for a cake,
which they wanted their mother to take,
they saw her sigh and said mother don't cry,
we don't need cuisine,
or even the healthy cabbage and beans,
we don't need the finest clothes,
all we want is you to hold,
they gave their mother a hug,
smoothing down matted hair,
and wiping away their mothers tears,
we love you no matter what mommy they said,
and together they went and ate their bread...
