How Meat Worsens World Hunger

More than 70% of grain produced in the US is fed to animals raised for slaughter. In order to get just one pound of meat, it takes a full 15 pounds of grain. If this grain were given directly to people, there would be enough food to feed everyone. Also, the land that the animals are raised on can be used to grow significantly more food than the land currently provides.

This is only one of the many problems with meat. So go vegetarian or vegan! Or at least eat less meat.

And what about mad cow disease? And salmonella? they'd be gone!

Feeding that cow takes a lot of grain, you might as well eat the grain
My logic is not flawed.

And then we'd be overrun by cattle, chicken, and pigs that would eat the crops that farmers are trying to grow to sustain the world. Once the grain is gone, then they would find their ways into our major cities, bringing about the chance for massive, widespread disease, which would increase the price of healthcare, which would in turn bite us all on the ass, because someone wanted to save a few animals. Do I agree that maybe we could cut down a little on meat, sure. Sometimes we go overboard. However to cut it out completely would eventually mean that we're going to someday become overrun by the animals we now consider food, and there's a potential that they may eat quite a bit of the grain, thus increasing the price of the remaining grains, which would then be stockpiled by the wealthy, and doled out by them for even more incredible prices. Also, if charities give a family a cow,, for example, that family can breed that cow with another cow, making more calfs, which would then increase the amount of food they would have, and then they could sell off their calfs or cows, making them richer in the end.

So you see, your logic is ridiculously flawed.

If a charity gives a poor family a cow or goat or even sheep, the people use the animal for milk to give to their children. Do you want a whole lot of little children to go without milk because their parents got ten pounds of grain instead of a milk cow?

if no one ate meat then their would be no need for it. making it worthless.

true, but we influence our society by eating meat and many charities give animals to the poor which is a waste since they could give more grain to more people.
113 years, 1 month & 19 days ago 22nd Mar 2011 14:05

if you want to convince a farmer to stop selling meat, go ahead; it'll just raise the prices of meat and convince other farmers to switch to animals. Unfortunately, most people don't give a damn about if someone they don't know starves; whatever makes the most profit is what they'll go with
113 years, 1 month & 19 days ago 22nd Mar 2011 14:03

but then you imply that farmers would hand grain over for free, thus losing a profit and having to raise the price of their other crops to make up for it, thus making the poor unable to afford food, and the whole world starves. tada.
