Mara Event Recap, Theory on Basp and Eleka

16th Sep 2022 18:31 Hello Marada, I'm here to present you my findings from when I sifted through the news for 5-6 hours the other day, a recap if you will, and my thoughts on what could possibly be Baspinar and Eleka's true colors in these events!
This Recap was painstakingly shorthanded to the best of my ability, but is still a bit winding, so please bear with me!
~~~DISTANT PAST AND THE MINIPET ISLAND WAR OF 2007
Eleka was the former ruler of Marada until Baspinar I banished her a little over 1000 years ago. History Books and Encyclopedias are written to suggest that she is evil and that taking over was necessary.
Many Years later from this event, identical twins Baspinar XII and XIII are born about 19 seconds apart from one another.. with the elder twin destined for the throne. The Younger twin likely harboring insecurities and resentment of this fact since Marada considers him the "uglier" twin.
Mind, we don't know what Eleka thought of King Baspinar XII at all, and she was still banished up until before the Minipet IslandWar started. Before said war, Baspinar XII is announced having been missing for 12 hours on January 9th, 2007.
Eleka addresses a comeback while XII is missing, promising to restore Marada to power greater than they can imagine, and to wash out the light that was so cruel to her all those years ago... she also does not neglect to describe Baspinar I as a tyrant that stole her kingdom, so perhaps there is more to her side of the story that we just don't know.
Baspinar XIII is crowned in haste after news of his brother being found dead and in pieces, and there are no elaborate ceremonies that take place. Instead, he makes a proclamation that he believes Eleka to be responsible for the death of his twin, and does not want his people to get the wrong idea of his power... so he leaves the decision of war to his parliament.
The Snobbish Party wins, and a declaration of war is made on March 5th, 2007. Eleka hears of this and closes shops to the light side while Baspinar XIII reflects her tactics. This harbors drastic effects on Marada's economy and the two instead give up and send their own troops against the others'... this goes on for a week.
An April Fools Joke surfaces to poke at the war, claiming the two warring rulers to have kissed and made up, with Eleka expecting a baby. Crindol are discovered the following day. Confusingly, they look very much like both parties, and just where did that picture of the two come from anyway? Odd...
While Maradan hoped that the war would end by May, the war spanned about two large battles more into August 17, 2007 with Eleka brought into defeat and longterm imprisonment within her own castle- in which she would bide her time to return once more....
STORM MARANORMOUS
Over a Decade later, in 2019, Marada begins to have complicated weather patterns starting with a massive heatwave that persists until Winter. Borak is approached after his own suggestion of being able to manipulate the weather with his magic. This almost works, but due to the shortage of Frozen offerings, it rains instead... Only actually snowing by the time Mid December hit.
Eventually, come 2020, Maradans become displeased with his hold on the weather and he lets go, it begins to rain again and even the Wizard comes out of his own silence to speak out against his actions- stating that using magic to manipulate the weather is dangerous and should never be done. He forces an apology out of Borak, who has to literally pay double to charity for his actions.
The Storm that built from Borak's meddling soon worsens from Category 1 to Category 2, having been redubbed as Storm Maranormous... and by the time February rolls in, it is a catastrophic tornado that wreaks havoc on Marada- with Vortex Park taking the brunt of it and having been almost completely destroyed.
The Residents are found to have survived one by one as days go by, but their home isn't the same and they struggle to pick things up and resume their lives.
BASPINAR'S PALLADIUM JUBILEE
On February 10th, King Baspinar Announces that he will be holding his Palladium Jubilee to celebrate his years on the throne. He begins preparations and hires as many clowns as possible for the event.
The King's attentions are barely on Vortex Park, with him only going out of his way to pay for the Penitentiary to be rebuilt. He's too preoccupied with preparations for his Jubilee, and any criticism of his ignorance of Vortex Park's damages is met with mysterious cases of violence and injured Maradan. He mentions to the public that his Palladium Jubilee will be like nothing Marada has ever seen before and that it is a Carnival Celebration of how Rich, Powerful and Amazing he is. According to him, Marada WILL have fun, or ELSE!
His response to even so much as the mention of Vortex Park was "Off with their heads".
The Jubilee begins as planned February 22nd, 2020, run by "The Trickster" to ensure nothing goes wrong.. and none of the 25,000 Maradan attending feel safe. They take to donning masks to hide their fear and pretend that they are having fun, but something is very wrong. Baspinar Considers it a success, despite this fact.
Some Maradan ignore the King's violent warning and start a petition to present to him the in following days, and those who signed were found mysteriously injured. Their petition also is not met well, and those that had presented it are subject to more violence.
The King instead dismisses Vortex Park again, in favor of building a castle for newly discovered species that he's taken a shine to, the Wallop- for the fact they have more than enough arms to applaud only for him. As it turns out, he already owned thousands of them, and the castle itself would cost 500 billion MP to make. To add insult to injury, it was being built some ways away, but still near, to Vortex park. In the Dark Territory.
After the Petition Incident, Maradan are shaken and take to complimenting how great he looks after his many years of ruling the throne as not to meet the same fate. The King is flattered enough that he pays for the Bearber to be able to reopen in Vortex Park so that everyone can have a beard "as nice as his".
Criticism however had not stopped, since even the Greedy Fairy herself admitted that 500 billion just for Wallops seemed "excessive". The King, taken aback, cuts the costs down to 450 billion by reducing the amount of "gold-plated bathroom taps" planned for the Wallop Castle.
King Baspinar also conceals the official number of Maradan injured by Storm Maranormous as not to distract from the Jubilee Celebration.
Eventually Baspinar Hires the Accountant to calculate the costs it would take to rebuild a "new and improved Vortex Park to rival all other worlds in Marada" and she believes that it would amount to 175-250 billion MP, to which Baspinar decides that Vortex Park isn't worth the MP to restore and instead uses some of those plans to contribute to his Wallop Castle.
The Peasant Fairy, one of the residents of Vortex Park and a big supporter of Baspinar, finds herself to agree with his choice, stating that she remembers when her home had first found destruction. There was no helping it then, so why help it now? They should do it themselves...
Vortex Park turns to the Pirates of Dukka in their desperation and the latter say they can do a patch job for about half as much as the Accountant had calculated. They come through with this almost a week later, and while the King thinks their work is shoddy, the residents of Vortex Park are just happy to get back to their lives!
ACADEMY OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY, ELEKA'S PLAN!
March 16th, 2020 the Palladium Jubilee concludes, and Baspinar is furious and launches his sword into a stone before putting himself into self-imposed lockdown. Apparently, the Jubilee was a potential distraction from the Oil he saw spewing from miles away over near Foxfire Forest, and he traced the cause of it to the Yeti of Biala.
He had locked himself away due to the fact Eleka had learned of this as well, and that she could rebuild her kingdom by mining for said oil. He hires the Fortune Teller from Slater Park, and she sees multiple plots to overthrow him, which causes him to gather his best scientists in preparation for a potential war.
Eleka meanwhile secretly prepares to open her Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry to Maradan, and students are sorted into their respective houses June 1st, 2020. Baspinar receives evidence of the Academy and knows it has something to do with magic- so he closes down the Mines in Foxfire Forest in hopes to thwart Eleka's plot.
The Academy wraps up July 20th, 2020- with 10,000 out of 85,000 graduating and becoming Wizards that help to bring life to and restore Eleka's Castle. Baspinar's plans to act and set foot outside of his castle also reach Eleka, and she begins sending out secret codes to her followers regarding her newest plan to take him down and reclaim Marada for herself.
Baspinar's Scientists intercept her messages and find out that the code she has been using corrupts after they're first read, and set to work in decoding those messages. The King becomes confident in that they can crack it by the end of the week. He prepares his army to set out with him.
Eleka commands her followers to set up traps all over Marada, wherever they think the King is the most likely to roam, and this has unforeseen consequences as not only are they catching his knights offguard, but large numbers of unsuspecting Maradan as well, and an incident at the Power Station injures workers and causes a worldwide blackout. The total number of traps placed around Marada as a whole was a jaw-dropping 145,014 and counting.
Because of the traps going off, Baspinar orders for them to be removed, and concludes that not only has Eleka made a comeback, but she is indeed still evil. He calls his army back to better prepare themselves for Eleka's First Attack...
WHAT DO WE KNOW THAT CAN BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THIS?
-Eleka's Rule of Marada was stolen from her.
-Eleka also detests the light side after the way she was treated (see: banishment at the hands of Baspinar I).
-Baspinar XIII has a fragile ego and is absolutely infatuated with himself.
-He is quite possibly afraid of Eleka as well.
-Baspinar XIII deliberately ignored the pleas of his people in favor of his image
-Baspinar XIII is "the ugly twin" of Baspinar XII, who was originally destined to be king. They're also identical.
Other notes? The older design for King Baspinar XII is a Flab-like creature. So hear me out--
I think Baspinar XIII used a Flab Maker on XII in order to murder him (by sword) and pin the blame on Eleka. It was timed carefully with when Eleka's Banishment expired so he could walk away the guiltless party.
I also think that Baspinar I really was a Tyrant who brought down Eleka so he could take over rulership of Marada, and that it's possible that the Baspinar Line has always had a problem with status and vanity and feel they have to be imposing over others just to have their way. Eleka hates the light and has grown bitter and resentful for the misfortune it has caused for her and possibly her following as well.
As a matter of fact, it's the Dark Territory that also has Pet Adoptions and Pet Trades, perhaps Eleka sympathizes with the unfortunate, and desires for them to have better circumstances, hence these features. The Light side is quite literally blinded with delusion, and she promises to snuff it out!
Eleka isn't faultless, of course. Her methods to get what she wants and her vengeful tendencies have ill effects on other Maradan, and many people feel like she's quicker to using others as pawns. But hey, I mean. When you consider that she opened an academy to teach magic? That was actually a very nice thing to consider doing! Both her and any students who attended mutually benefit from that- they learn magic, she restores her castle. And that's pretty fair!

So what do you think? Is Baspinar Evil? Is Eleka Evil? Any Idea as to what's really going on in this picture? I can't guarantee I'd keep any kind of conversation or debate flowing on my part since I'm kind of shy, but I'm curious to know fellow Maradan's thoughts!
